My Crazy Life Searching for People

Our Crazy Babysitter

June 18th, 2008 · No Comments

My wife and I needed a babysitter. Simple enough, right? Unfortunately, our usual sitter was unavailable that night - and so was her friend who has previously helped her out in a pinch. We asked our friends and neighbors, but still no luck. We were surprised none of them could recommend someone, but sometimes that’s just the way things go. We considered calling an agency, but they always tend to be exorbitantly expensive. In the end, we had to resort to our least preferred method: classified ad. We received a few calls, none of them especially spectacular, but we had to choose one, right?

So we interviewed a young woman named Veronica. She seemed nice enough, but my ever resourceful wife insisted that before we officially offer her the position, we should do a People Search to check her background. Boy are we glad we did! Turns out our friend Veronica had a couple of instances of identity theft on her record! Hardly someone we wanted to leave alone in the house where she could potentially snoop through our personal files.

However, this story has a happy ending. After Veronica, we met another young woman, Martha, and our people search on her background revealed that she was exactly who she claimed to be: a university student eager to make a few dollars on the side. Not only did it give us peace of mind so that my wife and I could enjoy our night out, but we’ve also found another sitter that we can call on whenever we need her.
